“You did not choose me but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit- fruit that will last- and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”

John 15:16

Testimony of Faith

I fell in love with Jesus Christ as a little girl. My grandmother, a pastor’s widow who taught the bible over the radio during the Great Depression and World War 2, taught me to love God and His Word. As I would help her peel potatoes for dinner or fold the laundry, she would teach me about the Friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Jesus Christ was her best friend, and the bible was her instructional manual for life. Decades later, I can say the same. Jesus Christ is my best friend, my Rock, my Fortress, and my Kinsman Redeemer. His Word has been my instruction manual for every area of my life- daughter, sister, wife, mother, teacher, business owner, and now grandmother ?. I have had the privilege of being a Bible Study Fellowship Leader and Precepts Bible Study Leader for several decades. I have served as an elder in my church, Sunday School Teacher, Women’s Ministry leader and I now sing in the choir with my sweet husband.

Personal Life

I grew up in Northern California and am the proud product of the California public school system. The Lord, through my dad’s invitation, introduced my sweet husband to me at my 23rd birthday party and we quickly fell in love. John and I have been married for over 34 years. We have 4 adult children, 2 daughters in love and a new grandson. We have a corgi puppy named Charlie that I’m training to be a therapy dog for nursing homes and children’s hospitals. John and I love to travel (6 continents and 53 countries to date). Most Saturday afternoons in the fall find us at TCU football games; tailgating with loved ones and delicious Texas BBQ are the best! We enjoy running Disney half-marathons with our kids (the key to success is interval training), ballroom dancing and the occasional evening of line dancing at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth. Sunday mornings we are singing in our church choir and Sunday afternoons…I’m taking a nap

Professional Life

Seeking God’s will for my life

I graduated from UC Berkeley and started my career working for 2 Fortune 100 Companies in marketing and training. While the marketing part of my job was interesting, the training part of my job was awesome. I quickly realized I love to teach and I love to help people succeed.

Teaching is a holy calling… and I got called Big Time!

I remember where I was and what I was doing when the Lord called me to be a teacher. God’s first teaching assignment was with our own children. I loved every minute of the years I spent as our children’s teacher. Watching them learn to read and grow and discover their own passions and talents was amazing.

God’s next assignment for me was to teach in a private Christian elementary school. I was asked to develop and teach a program for highly capable learners. I loved the rigor and pace of the gifted education classroom. I earned my M.Ed in Gifted Learning from Liberty University and, by God’s grace, within a few years, my program won “Best in Washington State.”

Expanding my territory

The Lord opened the door for my students and I to start a business and raise money to fund the building of a K-8 Christian school in Eldoret,Kenya and provide $250,000 worth of textbooks and bibles. I was invited to be a delegate to the International Education Conference in Beijing. It was exciting to share best practices with teachers from across the US and China. The Lord moved me to a high school teaching position and I had the privilege of coaching 2 Speech and Debate teams to the National Championships.

Becoming a professional speaker and author

The Lord continued to expand my territory. I became a professional speaker, being vetted and trained by The Northwest Christian Speakers’ Bureau. I began speaking at Christian retreats and educational conferences throughout the US about 10 years ago. I love connecting with people and helping them unlock the gifts and talents God has given them. I wrote my first book, The Grand Adventure, to help children overcome their fear of failure and become all that God has called them to be.

My Calling: to encourage, equip and support

Today, I am the president of The Empowered Classroom, an educational consulting company dedicated to helping teachers become outstanding educators through research based, professional development training days and instructional books. My latest book, The Power of the Positive Teacher, is filled with God’s Word, encouraging stories and practical teaching tips from master teachers across the US. I also have the privilege of being Chairman and President of The James 1:27 Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity www.thejames1-27project.com. Our mission is to advance God’s Kingdom In Kenya and East Africa by raising funds to support Christian schools, feeding programs, orphan homes, micro-loans for women, and church plants.

Never underestimate the power of God!
